Good news for retail in the Canal Area

2013-09-18 – Atrium Brussels, the Regional Trade Agency, today presented the latest shopper numbers for Brussels. Several shopping streets in the Canal Area and the central districts have recorded strong results.

The overall ranking is still dominated by Rue Neuve (43,000 shoppers per day), Chaussée d’Ixelles/Porte de Namur (more than 31,000 shoppers), Rue des Fripiers (28,000 shoppers) and Boulevard Anspach (nearly 28,000 shoppers), ahead ofRue de Brabant with over 25,000 shoppers per day.

In the Canal Area, Rue de Brabant (Saint-Josse and Schaerbeek)is thus among the Region’s ‘heavyweights’. Moreover, it has recorded a 24% increase on the totals recorded five years ago. In this district, which has a definite supra-regional and supra-national standing, shoppers who were polled said they particularly liked the multicultural atmosphere.

Major progress has also been recorded for the shops of Molenbeek Centre, also in the Canal Area: theChaussée de Gand and surrounding area draws an average of 13,000 shoppers per day,up 14% on the situation five years ago; while the Etangs Noirs district attracts 10,576 shoppers, up 13%.
