2017.12.18 - MoMuse, the municipal museum of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, opened for the first time on 16 December.

Installed in the prestigious building of the Academy of Drawing and Visual Arts in Rue Mommaerts, the museum traces developments over the centuries from hamlet to village, and finally to municipality, as Molenbeek-Saint-Jean has become one of the most populous locations in the country.

The area’s strengths and distinctive features are detailed with reference to people, homes, work, education and civil society in the place once known as ‘Petit Manchester’.

Drawing on its own collections and those of other institutions, the museum will showcase a set of unique objects and images, augmented by numerous donations and loans from local residents.
