2015-01-21 – Newton SME Park, run by citydev.brussels, is in the running to win a prestigious award at MIPIM 2015in the ‘Industrial and logistical development’ category, and is also the only shortlisted Brussels project.

In early March every year, Cannes hosts the renowned International Real Estate Show for Professionals, better known as MIPIM. During the event, the MIPIM Awards are handed out for the best real estate projects in eight different categories. For 2015, the panel of judges has received no fewer than 150 entries from 37 different countries. Of the 39 outstanding projects on the shortlist, Newton, the citydev.brussels SME park in Anderlecht, will defend the honour of the Brussels Region. The winners will be announced at the MIPIM Awards ceremony at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on 12 March 2015.

The Newton project, partly financed by the European Regional Development Fund, represents a new type of business park adapted to the needs of SMEs. citydev.brussels realised that there was huge demand from Brussels SMEs for medium-sized premises of a few hundred square metres. The site has 5,540 m² of ground-level workshops: 16 modules of between 250 and 500 m² in two buildings. The innovative architecture and bright, colourful façades were designed by a consortium consisting of the firms B.A.E.B., DDS & Partners, VK Engineering and CES. Sustainable development and eco-friendly construction principles (water, waste, materials, etc.) are key to the buildings’ design. The designers have also given careful thought to the thermal insulation of the building shell, resulting in a remarkable energy performance level of K28 – well below the K45 that new buildings are required to achieve.

The new complex was completed in March 2014, and the modules have been snapped up. The project’s successdemonstrates the scale of the demand for premises and activities of this type in the Brussels-Capital Region.
