2016-05-23 – The Bru+ website (www.bruplus.eu), which went online in spring 2011, has become canal.brussels.
Putting the Canal Plan in the spotlight
This makeover comes as the website which has been devoted to news about the central districts of Brussels in the Canal Area for the past five years also becomes the website of the Canal Plan, work on which began in 2012 (see the articles opposite, left). This has involved adapting the structure of the website, which now has several topics, divided into subtopics, specifically relating to the Canal Plan’s implementation: ‘Canal Plan’, ‘Implementation’ and ‘Territory’.
Readers will recall that the Canal Plan aims to revitalise the central districts of Brussels, located along the waterway, by using the potential of public land, building housing and stimulating a new economic dynamism. At the same time, urban density, a diverse functional and social mix and urban integration are all being fostered.
News from the Canal Area
canal.brussels will continue to take an interest in developments in the districts of the Canal Area. These districts, with their mosaic of people, landscapes and activities, form a rich and varied entity that is constantly changing. They have many assets and abundant potential in terms of people, land, businesses, the heritage, culture, leisure and so on. They have been on the rise over the past few years, with the development of numerous public, private and mixed initiatives in various fields.
All of this will provide regular input for several sections of the site, including ‘News’, ‘Faces’, ‘Out of the Ordinary’ and ‘Newsletter’.
Passing the baton
These changes to the website canal.brussels also involve a passing of the baton, as it will be run from now on by the Urban Development Corporation (SAU-MSI) of the Brussels-Capital Region.
The SAU-MSI will thus take over from the Urban Development Agency (ADT-ATO) for the Brussels-Capital Region, which created and managed www.bruplus.eu as part of a project funded from 2011 to 2015 by the European Union and the Brussels-Capital Region (ERDF Funding Programme in Brussels for the period 2007-2013/15).
Finally, canal.brussels is now using the slogan ‘be canal be.brussels’, as part of the city branding approach of the Brussels-Capital Region (http://be.brussels.be/ and http://be.brussels/a-propos-de-la-region/charte-graphique-de-la-region-de-bruxelles-capitale).
