CTA – Chemicals

The creation of a CTA (Centre for Advanced Technology) in the chemicals sector was the aim of this project jointly funded by the French Community of Belgium, the municipality of Schaerbeek and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The centre is based at the Institut Frans Fischer and was opened on 21 September 2012.

The idea is to make scientific laboratory equipment reflecting the latest technologies available to schools and companies engaging in scientific work, in order to improve the training of technicians and engineers in these techniques.

Several courses have already been held at the Institut Frans Fischer in Schaerbeek for teachers and pupils, in various fields such as the use of resins to produce demineralised water, activated sludge purification stations, and bioindicators. Other courses will be added, and a wider public will be able to participate in the future.

The CTA plans to set up scientific partnerships between companies and the educational world. It also plans to take part in a number of environmental projects which have already been initiated (‘Contrats-rivières’ and ‘Chercheurs d’eau’) and to provide the relevant authorities with suitable equipment for processing soil.

The Institut Communal Technique Frans Fischer already has a strong partnership with private investors covering the equipment and openings for its pupils for in-company internships. The institute focuses on the chemical analysis of water and soil and other pollution-related analyses.
