2022.10.07 - On 4 October, Beliris, the specialist federal civil engineering agency for Brussels, opened Pont Suzan Daniel, the bridge linking the Quartier Nord and Tour & Taxis. Attended by local residents, project partners and political representatives, the opening took place in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
Cyclists, pedestrians and public transportnow have a shorter and more pleasant route across the Brussels Canal, linking Boulevard Simon Bolivar to Avenue du Port and Rue Picard. By connecting the two banks of the Canal, the bridge promotes social contact and brings the Quartier Nord and Tour & Taxis closer together.
This 200 metre-long bridge encourages sustainable mobility in a fast-growing district. It was made in Belgium: the metal structures were built in Ghent and in a workshop near Kortrijk.
Its name was chosen by the people of Brussels through a participatory process, and honours an iconic figure of the Belgian LGBT+ community. The bridge thus also symbolises the importance of building bridges between different communities.
