Bruxelles-les-Bains turns ten this year

2012-06-07 - Bruxelles-les-Bains will be held from 6 July to 12 August 2012, with Quai des Péniches playing host for the tenth consecutive year to this event which imparts a fun and festive spirit to the capital during the summer period.

Over a 500-metre stretch3,000 tonnes of sand from the North Sea will await some 250,000 visitors to the 12,000 m2 of authentic waterside resort set up right in the heart of Europe’s capital.

Making artistic and cultural discoveries, getting a change of scene, relaxing, recharging batteries, meeting up with friends, playing, partying, dancing, laughing, getting some exercise – the possibilities are endless. There will be something for all groups and all ages: a children’s village (beach games, a recreation area with water slide, a special programme of music and drama, face-painting, showings of cartoons and films, etc.), chill-out areasclubbing (Croisetteke, Boat Club and Beach Parties), food and drinksports (beach soccer, beach volley, gentle workouts, ping-pong, pétanque, flag football, beach golf, American football, rugbeach, frisbee, not to mention the Tour de France and the Olympic Games on big screens), concerts (around forty), artistic eventsDJ sets and so on.

This year, to mark the tenth anniversary, the site will be given a complete overhaul, and many new features will appear, including an exceptional opening show (entertainment from Mobil’OH  at Place de la Monnaie from 13.00; procession to the canal from 17.00; Mobil’OH show and submarine barge Axolotl on the canal from 19.00; fireworks and sound and light show at 23.00); activities on the canal (Mobil’OH show, parties on the Boat Club, submarine barge Axolotl); and exhibitions by plastic artists (Analgi, a cargo of 163 pairs of beach shoes; Zonne-Tatoo-de Soleil, a monumental work inspired by the parasols of yesteryear; Urban Farm Unit: a container farm in an urban setting, in collaboration with the Kaaitheater; Cabane BambOO, a monumental structure made of 11-metre flexible sticks of bamboo; Gants de vent, a moving choreography).

  • Quai des Péniches, 1000 Brussels. Near Place Sainctelette, beside the Brussels Canal.
  • The site is reached via Place Sainctelette and Quai de la Voirie.
