2013-02-13 – A first residency for the creation of innovative objects was launched on Wednesday by the Brussels Minister for the Economy, Employment, Scientific Research and Foreign Trade. This pilot project enables a number of young Brussels designers to make use, between February and mid-April, of the resources (such as a 3D printer) of FabLab.iMAL by the Canal at 30 Quai des Charbonnages.

FabLab.iMAL is a production workshop where anyone (including artists, designers, engineers, developers, DIY fans, students and members of the public), regardless of their level of training, can come and experiment, learn or make objects of all kinds (artistic or designer objects, interactive objects, technical objects, prototypes, etc.). The members of a FabLab form a community: they help one another, exchange know-how, and together build up their knowledge in open collaboration processes which are integrated into the worldwide network of FabLabs.

With this residency supported by the Region, FabLab.iMAL becomes a kind of design incubator, a new tool a new tool to stimulate creativity and develop new innovative services for designer-entrepreneurs in Brussels. In practical terms, the designers of the ‘Studio With a View’ collective, whose workshops are at the former Belle-Vue bottling plant, will benefit from virtually unlimited access to the machines at Fablab.iMAL. The residency will be concluded with an exhibition of the results at MAD (Mode and Design Center) during Art Brussels (in April 2013).
