2013-11-08 - Winter Wonders is back for the twelfth year. Brussels welcomes many tourists and locals to this event every year who come to enjoy the friendly and festive atmosphere for the whole family.
Created in 2002 on the initiative of the City of Brussels, Winter Wonders has worked ceaselessly to enhance its appeal for Belgians and foreigners visiting the country’s capital. The now famous two-kilometre Christmas concourse in the heart of the capital, which has been extended this year, will be the stuff that dreams are made of once again this winter with its unique atmosphere, quality activities, varied culinary specialities, opportunities to discover other worlds, enchanting lights and other delights.
Alongside traditional features (such as the skating rink, merry-go-rounds and food stalls) that have turned Winter Wonders into an unmissable and internationally renowned event, there will be several new attractionsthis year:
- the Grand-Place will be resplendent with its new permanent illuminations, a breath-taking sound and light show and a 17-metre Christmas tree from the forests of Wallonianext to the traditional crib scene;
- Iceberg, an innovative and interactive light project, will be set up at Place de la Monnaie;
- the RTL Christmas Parade will make its way through the streets of central Brussels;
- an authentic Swiss chalet offering traditional Swiss food will be set up near the skating rink;
- new public terraces will be installed for the convenience and comfort of visitors;
- a ‘Winter Wonders’ label for craftspeople has just been created;
- the Stock Exchange will host a stunning exhibition, confirming the ambition of the City of Brusselsto make this historic building a key cultural centre;
- a new action plan has been devised to relieve the city centre of the burden of road traffic at the weekend and over the Christmas holidays while Winter Wonders is running.
