Canal Molenbeek on ARTE-Belgique

2015-01-19 – The ARTE-Belgique programme Quai des Belges devoted its first broadcast of 2015 to Molenbeek, screening Canal Molenbeek, a Philippe Cornet film made during ‘Molenbeek, Capital of Culture 2014’ (length: 55 minutes), which captures the atmosphere of the Brussels municipality on the banks of the Canal, the life of its neighbourhoods and the diversity and creativity of its people, from young rappers in ‘MolemCapitale’ to Léon, who has got into dancing at the age of 91...

The programme also included three short documentaries presented by Hadja Lahbib: Sucre, venin et fleur d'oranger (about thirty ladies of all ages and from all backgrounds who meet for a weekly drama workshop run by Ben Hamidou at Dar Al Amal, a women’s association in Rue de Ribaucourt); Rencontre avec l'auteur, compositeur et chanteur Mohamed Mesbahi, about the interface between rock, folk, French and Flemish chanson and traditional Moroccan music; and Our Generation (a documentary made by the young people of the video workshop at the Molenbeek Arts and Social Cohesion Centre).

After its television transmission (14 January on ARTE-Belgique, 16 January on La Deux-RTBF), the programme will remain available for viewing on the website of the RTBF.
